European interdependence: a gift or a curse?

The Greek debt crisis illus­trates more than ever that the des­tinies of European nations are related to and depend­ent on one another. EU mem­ber states find them­selves with little choice but to invest in Greece to keep the Union from col­lapsing. And with good reason, because the fin­an­cial crisis goes bey­ond eco­nom­ical devel­op­ment and national budgets. Our way of life is at stake.

Speak softly and carry a big stick: EU foreign policy

If any­thing, the EU remains to this day an exper­i­ment. Even though many of the European civil­ians take the EU insti­tu­tions for gran­ted, or rather not care about them at all, the concept of an inter­na­tional organ­iz­a­tion has never before in the his­tory of man­kind sus­tained. Nat­ur­ally, there is at this moment no reason to sus­pect that the EU will sur­vive indef­in­itely or that it will soon succumb.
