The sacred non-interference principle or the shield of the ambiguous Chinese diplomacy?

His­tor­ic­ally, China has strictly stuck to the non-interference prin­ciple. But, this sac­red prin­ciple as inter­preted in the Chinese for­eign policy may appear quite ambigu­ous. It has been dur­ing a long time pushed by the Chinese dip­lomacy to its lim­its but appears some­what flex­ible, depend­ing on what it is at stake.
Nowadays, this prin­ciple seems to be some­times over­worked. So much so the concept is los­ing its sub­stance. There­fore, let’s go back to the origins…

EU gains special observer status in UN

Half a year after the first attempt failed, the EU finally gained an enhanced spe­cial observer status with almost all rights given to reg­u­lar UN mem­bers. How­ever, des­pite all expres­sions of joy and sat­is­fac­tion, the EU should not for­get that rep­res­ent­ing the Union’s pos­i­tion at the UN requires Brus­sels to find a com­mon pos­i­tion all mem­ber states will adhere to.

Speak softly and carry a big stick: EU foreign policy

If any­thing, the EU remains to this day an exper­i­ment. Even though many of the European civil­ians take the EU insti­tu­tions for gran­ted, or rather not care about them at all, the concept of an inter­na­tional organ­iz­a­tion has never before in the his­tory of man­kind sus­tained. Nat­ur­ally, there is at this moment no reason to sus­pect that the EU will sur­vive indef­in­itely or that it will soon succumb.
